Armed Forces Half Marathon 2020
Race Technical Difficulty Score (RTDS) = 2
Join us on May 23 2020 as we salute those who gave their lives for American Freedom. We will honor the United States Air Force as we continue to honor our troops and each service each year.
The Naval Weapons Station in Concord California has been known as a mystery to many civilians, that is until now. Runners will get an opportunity to run or walk through this once off-limits area, which served our country during several wars in our nations past. This will all take place in Downtown Concord California’s Todos Santos Plaza as we salute those who have given their lives for American Freedom.
This is a fairly flat out and back half marathon with more than two-thirds of the half marathon being run on the actual base itself. This course takes runners from the downtown Concord area up Willow Pass and into the Naval Weapons Station, formerly used as a munitions base for several of the wars our nation fought in. Commonly referred to as Bunker City, where runners turn around is met with a small incline where runners will get an incredible panoramic view of the installation. This part of the course up until now, this has been strictly off-limits to civilians.
New in 2019 was the Base to Plaza 12K, which was also a Road Runners Club of America Regional Championship. This is a point to point course with minimal elevation change. Busses will take runners out to an undisclosed portion of the base 45 minutes before the start of the event.
Upon exiting the Weapons Station, all runners will run back down Willow Pass and finish at Todos Santos Plaza where they will be given a commemorative medal of our armed forces and will enjoy our post race festival in the park.
